Genocide, Massacres, Violence,Terrorism and Mental Health

As one of the key pillars of Axon Foundation for Research and Development, we are actively working on issues related to genocide, ethnic massacres, violence, terrorism, and extremism. Our focus is mainly on the Kurdish genocides, particularly the Anfal campaign, the Halabja chemical attack, the Yazidi genocide as well as other atrocities and genocides that have occurred. We conduct research and advocacy focused on survivors and their offspring, particularly addressing transgenerational trauma and the long-term psychological effects of mass atrocities. Axon Foundation for Research and Development also works with families of missing persons—those who have disappeared due to war, violent conflict, mass killings, or enforced disappearances. We provide tailored Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services to help families cope with grief, trauma, and the enduring uncertainty of not knowing the fate of their loved ones. Through survivor-centered research, trauma-informed programs, and community-based healing efforts, we aim to promote justice, resilience, and long-term recovery for those affected by extreme violence and human rights violations.
